Semiconductor stocks moved sharply higher on Friday, with 12 of the 19 S&P 500 members in the Semiconductors industry up 4% or more, averaging a gain of about 7.68%. That move outpaced the broader market, with the S&P 500 up 1.02% and the Nasdaq Composite up 1.84% as of 10:00 AM ET.
The stocks
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) led the group, trading at $456.73, up 12.94%. Lam Research (LRCX) followed at $205.05, up 10.72%, with Micron Technology (MU) close behind at $720.00, up 9.69%.
KLA Corporation (KLAC) and Marvell Technology (MRVL) posted similar gains, up 8.34% and 8.32% respectively, trading near $140 a share each. Applied Materials (AMAT) rose 7.76% to $344.02, and Intel (INTC) gained 7.67% to $56.26.
Nvidia (NVDA), the group's largest member by market value, rose 6.43% to $193.27. Teradyne (TER) added 6.00% to $225.51, and Monolithic Power Systems (MPWR) gained 5.49%, trading above $1,193 a share.
Broadcom (AVGO) rose 4.44% to $304.47, and Qnity Electronics (Q) gained 4.33% to $114.80, both at the lower end of the group of stocks up 4% or more.
Several other members moved in the same direction but by smaller amounts: ON Semiconductor (ON) added 3.16%, Qualcomm (QCOM) rose 2.98%, Analog Devices (ADI) gained 1.38%, Skyworks Solutions (SWKS) edged up 0.93%, NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) rose 0.69%, and Texas Instruments (TXN) was roughly flat, up 0.05%.
Microchip Technology (MCHP) moved against the group, falling 8.31% to $59.46, the only decliner among the industry's S&P 500 members.
